PCA 2023: Sonic Humidifiers

During the trade show, we are constantly asked if we’ve seen anything new that we find interesting. I bet you didn’t think this is the company that would top my list. That said, it’s easy. Of all the new products I saw on display at PCA 2023, I am most looking forward to trying one from Sonic Humidifiers. Earlier this year Ron Lesseraux of Sonic Humidifiers told me he was working on a new ultrasonic humidifier for cabinet humidors. He didn’t want to talk about it before PCA 2023 and while he talked me through the unit in-person, he didn’t want to do so on video. Needless to say, I’m interested. Seriously, I think I might end up buying a half dozen of these.

Sonic Humidifiers isn’t new, but it’s not been a booth we’ve covered as—up until this point—it’s been a company that focuses on humidifiers for walk-in humidors. It’s not that we don’t care about those items, rather, we have more companies than we can cover. But now that there is a consumer-focused models, Sonic Humidifiers is getting included.

Lesseraux and his two sons manned a pretty simple 20 x 10 booth. It was a popular place to hang out as it served as a de facto misting station.

Sonic Cabinet Humidifier

The big deal is that this is an ultrasonic humidifier for cabinet humidors. Ultrasonic uses high-frequency vibrations—think sound—to create a very fine mist. To my knowledge, all other electronic humidification for cabinet humidors has basically been some version of a computer fan blowing atop a container of water. While this works, ultrasonic humidifiers can provide more precise humidification, better coverage and should be cleaner to run.

This unit can either be plumbed or use its .8 liter tank, which can be refilled from the top. Lesseraux told me that the overflow line is actually wider than the input, which should help reduce messes due to overfilling. The unit has two different humidity sensors, one that is on the humidifier, which would be placed in the bottom of a cabinet, and the other that is designed to be placed towards the top of the humidor. An algorithm helps to find a happy medium between the two readings. There’s also a large front panel for controlling the unit. Inside the tank, there’s a small UV light to help kill bacteria, though Lesseraux said you may still want to use a tiny amount of vinegar, bleach or alcohol to help assist with keeping the unit clean.

These are not designed to be sold in stores, though it wouldn’t surprise me if a few stores try.

Yes, I plan on reviewing it.
